work and play

I have been spending many hours creating inventory which will soon be listed on www.auntwednesdays.etsy.com Check back tomorrow to see the ever growing sweater FINISHED!

So this is a random break.. but I want to praise Good Dad's everywhere for the job the do with their kids.
I know a grandpa who drove 60 miles just to meet his grandson at Chucky Cheese for some play time! That is a grandpa who has his life where it should be. Children grow so fast and then they are gone. Yet making memories, they last forever! Good Job!!! Every child deserves the right to be a kid, to know that mommy and daddy celebrate them also!
I absolutely hate roller coasters yet I rode and rode them with my girl so that she would have the experience, the memory. A big thank you to parents everywhere who give of themselves to provide better opportunities for their kids. Instilling confidence in your child gives them the tools to grow and succeed in the course God has planned for them.

The growing sweater

the growing sweater
So.... the funniest thing happened... at least I thought it was funny, some people will probably just roll their eyes at this little story, but that's OK. I was working on my third baby sweater of the day for my shop http://www.auntwednesdays.etsy.com/  when suddenly I realized the sweater i was making was HUGE! My yarn stash was really getting a work out today and I was so proud of my progress. I wasn't paying much attention as i got sucked in to this great movie "The Ultimate Gift" starring James Garner.. (my all time fav actor)  All the sudden I looked down at what I had been making to see I was actually making a sweater big enough to fit my 20 month old nephew! Here is a picture of it in progress! Still needs a sleeves and a collar. My crochet hooks are all in this little pouch my grandma kept hers in and her mom used before her. I just reached in and didn't pay any attention to the hook (first mistake) and grabbed an size I instead of a G. Then I counted my chain, and started crocheting, only somewhere in those establishing stitches my phone rang and I received quite a few texts and still I crocheted. The funny thing is that i have crocheted for so long and am so used to this pattern that i didn't miss a stitch, everywhere it should have been increased for the larger size, i increased it! So the sweater will be completed, perfectly made to fit an avg 12-24 month old baby. I did everything i needed to to make the larger size without even realizing it! I was just so shocked to look down and realize i had this bright beautiful and way to big for a newborn sweater in my lap. Has anyone you know ever done that? Or my favorites is when I m making a scarf and get to talking as I knit, i have made them so long and wide hat they become crib blankets!!!! I know I need to pay attention but sometimes I am pleasantly surprised what my hands do when my eyes are not watching! Check back tomorow to see ths completed sweater!

Christmas Day

Today was so quiet, Mom and I were together. Not like when Tab was small, running through the house, slamming her barbie limo into the furniture.  We spent a wonderful time on the phone as she was cooking Christmas dinner 300 miles away.

Tab- you will be happy to know the tree actually survived Christmas Day without being packed up. This is the first time in 10? years it will make it to Dec 26th.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Almost Christmas

This has been such a wonderful day, nothing that I planned happened, yet God took care of it all! The entire day was spent with good friends and family. I laughed so much today that my jaw actually hurts! So many blessings poured into my day.... Kyler opening birthday presents, crawling in his new tent with him and playing with his cars, watching him melt as bedtime neared ... as he called everyone "bad" and cried. He is such a mess! Then I have teeth marks on my arm from a fun little wrestling match with Keshia. Spent lots of time talking with Dani, what a beautiful gift she is to Shawn and everyone who knows her..simply precious! I also got hugs from all the boys today which was a gift. Nothing i had planned on accomplishing today happened but my soul was filled with joy, laughter and the gift of true God moments, if you take the time to acknowledge.

Good Night Sleep Tight  santa comes tonight

Kyler Austin Christmas Eve

Happy, happy, happy 3rd birthday to our sweet little Kyler Austin Robinson!!! Kyler, you bring us all joy and hope. We love you!

I can't believe its Christmas Eve 2010! Happy Christmas Eve! This has been such a trying year, yet this morning I am reminded that no matter how crazy life is, how alone we feel, God is always faithful! He is our present, he was in our past and he is already in our future. The bible says that He not only provides our needs but also the desires of our heart.

Dear Lord,
Thank you so much for this day, for the birth of you son, Jesus, so many years ago, for sending him for all of mankind. No matter what religion, beliefs or ethnicity, your arms are open wide with love! Thank you Father!!
Lord, I ask you to be with Kyler, to help him grow in your word and to be a man after your heart. Thank you for saving Mackenzie for our family, help her body to heal and grow stronger. We love and praise Your Name and believe you still perform miracles. Please place a protective covering over our Tabby this Christmas, I'm so sad she can't be home this Christmas, but thank you for her mature decision to work through the holidays. Thank you so much for our family, your saving grace and protection! In Jesus Name, Amen

Im sitting here at the local deli having lunch by myself and having a great time!!!!! Isn't that funny? Probably the first minute I have had quiet in a week...... minus the 40+ other patrons who are here. But I can tune them out rather successfully due to my years of training as a mom.. lol Everybody is rushing like crazy to get ready for Christmas and here I sit, absolutely still. Thanking the Good LORD that I have all of my shoppong done! Presents wrapped, shipped, and now I can just enjoy the season! This has been a rough year. A year of sickness and seperation from loved ones. Tabby, its ok with me if you and Anthony move within a 100 miles or so lol! EXHALE!

Today has been extremely long and my plate is very full! At one point this evening I finally exhaled, it was as if I hadn't fully done it in years. For a few short moments tonight I was at rest! Christmas is coming so fast, so many things in my world are changing but God is constant! He promises to never leave or forsake us! THANK YOU LORD JESUS! I don't know what tomorrow holds, only what yesterday did, but that is OK because God KNOWS! Before we were born He knit us together in our mother's womb..... Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and i ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. Jeremiah 1:5

I am currently  working on a  dress for a 3-6lb preemie  that will be sold on my store www.auntwednesdays.etsy.com the bodice of this dress is a pale cream and the dress is red with a deep ruffle around the bottom of it! I am so excited to list it for every one to see very soon. well today is quickly becoming tomorrow so goodnight friends

Christmas Quilt

My weekend goal= I am rushing to finish the quilt I promised my sweet little 8 yr old niece for Christmas! She has already seen her pieced top and the beginning of the quilting process as i worked on it when she was at the hospital in Louisville. Our precious little Kenzie has been through so much, her illness came about so suddenly and now she has had to learn how to live her life from the confines of a wheelchair. A really awesome lime green one with front wheels that light up, still her life has changed, my sister and her husband face new challenges every day and so do her big brothers and her baby brother. As I've watched my sister live in hospitals, watching over her little one, i kept thinking there has to be a way to help these parents, to offer them comfort. My heart keeps going to the Neonatal ICU where routinely babies who weigh less than 3 lbs are lying there struggling for life and i have found that it is very hard to find clothing for these little one because they have to be specially made to accommodate any IVs or tubing these children have, this  type of clothing can not have snaps because they could become warm enough to damage the sensitive skin of a premature baby. For these little ones there is no such thing as their parents running to the local chain store for new onesies or even diapers. there are very few things on the market that are able to accommodate a two pound baby. Well that is where Aunt Wednesdays comes into the picture! I will specifically be designing and crocheting outfits appropriate for your baby to use in the NICU. Please say a special prayer tonight for all of the parents who are standing besides their children's bed this night praying for a miracle.... and also for our own miracle, Kenzie, that the Lord has given our family. Thank You Merry Christmas

A Tiny Seed

A tiny seed was sown many years ago at my Grandma's knee. Help others, work hard and create new and useful things often. That seed has flourished just below the surface, in fertile soil; its roots have grown strong, spread deep and wide and now are bursting upward to the bright sunshine. I’m not sure exactly where this blog will go, I have many interests, many favorite things to occupy my time. Besides working full time, I love to crochet, knit, spin, quilt and dye fibers. Oh…… I forgot baking….. I love to bake!
Three things bring me immense JOY, My God, My Child and helping someone or something to find a purpose. Everyone and everything has a job to do, whether it’s the apron that keeps smudgy fingerprints from covering our mid sections, or maybe the mom who is at a complete loss with what to do with her life, now that her child is grown. We all have a purpose.
When I receive calls from my daughter asking for a well loved family recipe, how to fix something broken or just needing comfort, I think about the young women out there who are trying to make a home, with no role models, no one to give advice and limited resources. So many questions remain unanswered for so many of these young homemakers. How does dirt get THERE? How do I clean THAT? Why can’t someone PICK UP AFTER THEMSELVES? How do you suppose a half eaten banana ended up in my checkbookJ ?
God gives each of us special talents, although sometimes in this technologically advanced world I question how spinning my own wool or making my own laundry soap could possibly be considered a talent. Still I am interested in being closer to my heritage, be it a handmade afghan on the arm chair, an heirloom quilt on the bed or the smell of bread in the oven, I want others to enter my house and say “this is a Home”. We all have such different talents and an innate ability to learn from one another. Join me as my deeply rooted seedling pushes upward and spreads its branches.
